Philosophy

Phoenix Charter Academy's mission is to challenge young people in our area with an academically rigorous and individually tailored curriculum. Phoenix scholars will have the support, resources and training needed to succeed academically in high school and college, and become economically secure in their future. Role Summary

This is an exciting new position that requires demonstrated ability to design new programming. The individual leading this innovative scope of work, will be charged with bringing people together to build and implement systems, structures, routines and rituals that integrate the principles and practices of youth development, restorative justice, and a culture of positive relationships and student celebration throughout the school. A comfort working with all major stakeholders (teacher, leader, student, adult supporter, community partners and the network team) in order to engage multiple levels of input and support for new programming is a necessity.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Serves as the in-building expert on restorative practice.
  • Provides coaching and capacity building that offer an alternative to traditional school discipline approaches
  • Oversees the implementation of restorative practices throughout the school including, advisory, re-entry, conflict mediation, personal growth plans and student success and safety planning
  • Oversees and assesses quality of all restorative circles for both staff and scholars
  • Creates clear communication procedures and routines related to positive youth development and restorative justice with all staff members
  • Communicates with adult supporters and partners to maximize student success and restorative planning
  • Oversees and coaches student mediators/student leaders
  • Organizes and may lead positive identity-building experiences for scholars including identity and affinity groups
  • Leads student and staff restorative committee
  • Completes regular positive culture and youth development walks and shares actionable feedback with staff members around the areas of

  • Maintains a visible and active presence in classrooms, helping facitiliate a culture of strong student/staff and student student relationships
  • Facilitates professional development on scholar-staff relationships
  • Supports school and classroom re-entry of scholars returning to school
  • Supports the ongoing progress of students through participation in personal growth projects, success plans, portfolios and milestone achievement.

Additional Responsibilities as Required

  • Participates weekly in Student Support Team meetings and other cross school meetings as necessary
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to coordinate and support school programming
  • Occasional classroom coverage based on the needs of the school

Qualifications

  • Deep belief in the mission of Phoenix Charter Academy Network
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Professional training or experience in restorative practice,  mediation, or alternative to traditional discipline practices in schools
  • An unwavering commitment to positive youth development and restorative practice as foundational for positive school culture
  • 2-5 years of teaching or counseling experience preferred
  • A commitment to providing equity and access for all scholars in an educational setting
  • Experience designing, launching and managing new programs is a must
  • Experience leading or coordinating a team
  • Model strong judgement and decision-making
  • Detail-oriented with superb follow-through
  • Proven record of successfully taking initiative
  • Growth-oriented mindset: a desire to learn and grow as a professional
  • Conversational Spanish preferred
