Specific Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To The Following:

  1. Assess and evaluate scholar’s health (immediate concerns, as well as pertinent family history and home factors).
  2. Counsel scholar’s, parents and school personnel about health problems and issues.
  3. Maintain health records.
  4. Notify appropriate individuals of immediate and potential health-related problems.
  5. Coordinate health resources of school, home, community and allied health agencies/hospitals by making necessary outreach.
  6. Documents pertinent information in scholar’s records and prepares regular reports according to the Standards of Practice.
  7. Provides emergency care for scholars on school premises in the event of injury or sudden illness.
  8. Medication administration to scholar with parent/guardian and physician consent.
  9. Perform site-mandated screenings in vision, hearing, scoliosis, TB testing and other health-related activities as deemed appropriate by state and city departments of public health.
  10. Acts as a resource in health education and disease prevention to scholars, families, and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid, current Massachusetts license for practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in school nursing or a related field preferred.
  • Must be DOE certified/certifiable by the Massachusetts Department of Education in educator category, Nurse, All Levels. (DOE certification eligibility currently requires a minimum of a BSN)
